> New ASO solar fuse (gPV) – Meets both IEC 60269-6 and UL 2579 photovoltaic standards
|
SCHURTER successfully introduced the ASO solar fuse in 2010. The ASO now meets both IEC 60269-6 and UL 2579 standards for the protection of photovoltaic systems, thus it is qualified for use according to the latest gPV requirements.
The ASO solar fuse has been specifically designed for the protection of photovoltaic systems. This fuse can safely protect PV modules and conductors from reverse overcurrent conditions.
As PV systems have grown in size, so have the corresponding voltage requirements. This increase in system voltage has typically been intended to minimise power loss associated with long conductor runs. Standard circuit protection devices are not designed to completely protect photovoltaic panels. However, the ASO solar fuse is UL listed to safely interrupt faulted circuits up to this demanding volt-age level.
SCHURTER offers 13 different ampere ratings to match specific requirements of various applications, such as inverters and battery charge controllers or to be used as inline or string fuse. A PCB version and bolted contacts are also available on request. Moreover, SCHURTER provides the appropriate touch-safe fuse holder (FSO) and fuse clip (231660).
The product includes UL approval and is RoHS compliant. VDE approval is currently in process.

> Over-Current Protection for Primary and Secondary Applications
|
In niche markets with limited space, customers might look for a solution where SMD Fuses should be replacable without soldering. The successful standard UMT 250 has been extended for this reason with a clip option.
The UMZ 250 offers time-lag characteristic according to IEC 60127-4 and is a Universal Modular Fuse (UMF) with rated current values from 315 mA to 4 A. The product provides a high breaking capacity of up to 200 A at 250 VAC. The clip option allows a customer fuse replacement with the benefit that only the UMT 250 fits. This has the advantage that e.g. the technical specification in contrast to a 5x20 mm solution does not vary and spare fuses could be sold through the equipment manufacturer. With this setup, the manufacturer receives important information about equipment failures in the field. Gold cap are required, in order that the clip and the fuse are not soldered together in the reflow soldering process. As replacement, the standard UMT 250 can be used instead.
