> Simple circuit simulation: SPICE library for common-mode chokes
To assist in the simulation of circuits, SCHURTER now offers SPICE libraries for common-mode chokes on circuit boards. 

The new SPICE library contains simulation models for all common-mode chokes on circuit boards up to a rated current of 10 A. Also included are example circuits with which it is possible to examine the operational properties of various chokes before they are actually used in the circuit.

The SPICE models help customers find the best product for their application. With the help of simulation, they can evaluate the behavior of the chokes and also carry out calculations. In modern electronic designs, it is very common to simulate circuits before actually building the hardware. This approach eliminates or reduces the effort needed to build prototypes, which saves time and money.

The library is simply copied into the corresponding directory of the SPICE application. In the circuit diagram of the SPICE application you can select and insert the desired choke from SCHURTER's product line. By clicking the mouse on the component, the desired item number is selected and the simulation is started. In addition, the library contains multiple example circuits for common-mode chokes. This makes it extremely easy to compare the operational properties of various chokes. An analysis of the frequency response and saturation is also possible.

The simulation models have been tested with LTspice but can also be used with other compatible SPICE programs. LTspice is a widely used freeware simulation tool from Linear Technology Corp.

SCHURTER is expanding its successful FMER SOL DC filter with a series for applications using 3-phase AC. The new FMCC SOL high-performance filter series is designed for rated currents from 150 to 2500 A. The devices are ideal for increasingly powerful inverters that require filters on both the AC and DC sides. Large inverters find use in photovoltaics, wind energy systems as well as in industrial applications and quick-charge stations for electric vehicles.

The very high-performance FMCC SOL 3-phase high-current filters are designed to handle currents from 150 to 2500 A at an ambient temperature of 50 °C. With a voltage rating of 520 V or 760 V, they can be used in all high-performance systems such as inverters for photovoltaic and wind power systems. Despite this high performance, they feature a compact, lightweight design.

The amount of renewable energy is constantly growing. As a result, ever more powerful and physically larger systems are being built such as for photovoltaics and harvesting wind energy. All these systems need high-performance inverters that are designed for optimal energy efficiency. Modern inverters with MPP (maximum power point) trackers generate interference in both directions: on the AC grid side and the DC panel side. On the DC side, a filter in the FMER SOL series can be used for currents from 25 to 2300 A. These are enhanced very nicely on the AC side with the new FMCC SOL high-current series for 3-phase AC from 150 to 2500 A. Filtering on both sides of the connection lines helps to meet common EMC standards.

The FMCC SOL filter family has UL approvals for ambient temperatures of +50 °C as well as +40 °C with higher rated current. They are approved for voltage ratings of 520 VAC and 760 VAC. The high voltage rating of 760 VAC allows their use in IT power grids.

The FMC SOL up to 250 A is equipped standard with M10 screw connections and starting at 320 A with copper bars. Other connection types (stranded wire or copper bars for current levels less than 320 A) are available on request. In addition, customer modifications to the switching or the housing are also possible on request.

For optimal matching to the inverter, SCHURTER offers its own EMC measurement service. In this way, the most efficient filter solution for a system can be easily determined.

> FMER SOL: High-current DC filters
SCHURTER is expanding its successful FMER series of high-current filters with a model for high power. The entire series is now available without grounding capacitors for safety-related applications. 

Photovoltaic panels with increasing surface areas are being installed, and as a result ever more powerful inverters are required. To address this trend, SCHURTER is expanding the current ratings of its DC filters to 2300 A for higher power. For reasons of safety, filters are sometimes requested without grounding capacitors, which prevents any leakage current to ground. Thus, SCHURTER is also offering this entire series without Y capacitors.

Modern solar inverters with MPP (maximum power point) trackers generate interference in both directions: on the AC grid side and the DC panel side. On the AC side, it is usual to insert an AC filter such as the SCHURTER FMAC or FMBC, but until now few provisions have been made for the DC side. EMC standards EN 61000-6-3 and EN 55014-1, however, also limit the level of interference on non grid-connected conductors such as those going to a solar panel. A remedy can be provided by DC filters installed on the DC side of the solar inverter.

Large solar inverters are generally housed in cabinets that must have active cooling. The SCHURTER FMER series features high temperature resistance, which reduces the necessary cooling energy and makes a significant contribution to higher energy efficiency for the entire system.

FMER family filters have UL approvals for ambient temperatures of +55°C and +75°C as well as for rated voltages of 600 VDC and 1000 VDC. They are exceptionally well suited for rated currents from 25 A to 2300 A at an ambient of 55°C and for voltages up to 1200 VDC.

FMER SOL DC filters come standard with screw terminals up to 150 A, and with copper bars starting at 250 A. Other connection types (stranded wire or copper bar for current levels less than 250 A or bus bar terminals) are available on request. In addition, small modifications to the switching or the housing are also possible on request.

For optimal matching to the inverter, SCURTER offers its own EMC measurement service that makes it possible to find the most cost-effective filter solution.

Given the high levels of integration in electronic systems, the demand for electrical components for use in higher temperature environments is continually increasing. This is where the new C22F appliance inlet and filter fills a gap. The first product of its type on the market performs exceptionally well in applications with higher ambient temperatures. 

The new C22F filter series combines an IEC C22 high temperature appliance connector with a high-quality power-line filter. The combined inlet and filter are especially suited for use in applications with nominal currents up to 16A at 75°C ambient and 20A at 65°C ambient. The unique design provides higher temperature ratings over comparable filtered inlets, while maintaining a similar compact size.

The combination power entry module integrates the EMC filter directly at the line input, providing an optimal effect on electromagnetic compatibility. The broad metal flange features a large amount of contact area, which further optimizes filtering and shielding effects. Wiring is done using quick-connect or solder terminals.

The standard C20F and new C22F series are designed for operating currents up to 16A at 250 VAC according to IEC standards and 20A at 125/250 VAC according to UL standards. They are ENEC and cURus approved. The two series are available in standard and medical versions suitable for applications according to IEC 60950, and medical applications according to IEC 60601-1. Such applications include power distribution units, servers, medical heating appliances and imaging systems.

SCHURTER's latest 5123 series filtered inlet adds filter performance to the already successful standard version 5120 series. The higher attenuation in the same compact dimensions is designed to meet the continually increasing demands for interference suppression of IT, medical, test & measurement and industrial equipment. 

The new 5123 series filter combines an IEC power inlet and a line filter, designed for nominal currents up to 15A. The combination power entry unit integrates the EMC filter directly at the line input, providing an optimal effect on electromagnetic compatibility. The broad metal flange features a large amount of contact area, which further optimizes filtering and shielding effects. The filter’s increased inductance achieves a 6 dB improvement in asymmetric attenuation, compared to 5120 series and other like products on the market, corresponding to a doubling of its attenuation characteristics. Thus, the high filter performance makes the 5123 series well suited for applications such as switched-mode power supplies, where the utmost interference suppression is required.

The 5123 series is available for snap-in, screw-in or studded assembly. Screw-in assembly from the back side is particularly attractive for a plastic chassis with interior metal layers. Wiring is done with quick-connect, solder, stranded-wire or pc-board terminals. The PC version features snap-in feet for secure pc-board mounting. The stranded-wire version enables customer specific fitting for further cost-effective wiring.

The 5120 and enhanced 5123 are designed for operating current levels up to 10A at 250 VAC according to IEC and 15A at 125/250 VAC according to UL. They are ENEC and cURus approved. The two series are offered in standard and medical versions suitable for use in IT applications according to IEC 60950, and medical applications according to IEC 60601-1.

FMBB NEO – SCHURTER presents the new compact high grade EMI-Filter, the new FMBB NEO series for one phase systems

The new FMBB NEO Filter series consists of 3 different compact 2-stage filter designs. The 3 filter designs (Design C, Design D and Design F) are characterised by a high symmetrical and asymmetrical attenuation. The FMBB NEO filter Design C attenuates potentially strong conducted interferences. Design D is laid-out for the attenuation of high frequency interferences, whereas the Design F is designed more for low frequency noise attenuation. All designs come up with a high insertion loss performance. The FMBB NEO one phase filter is dimensioned as a 250 VAC filter at a rated current of 1-36 A according IEC and 125/250 VAC, 1-30 A according UL/CSA. The connection to the filter is made by quick connect terminals or with bolts and nuts, style M4. Optional flexible wire leads are available on request.

The compact NEO designed EMI-Filter is intended for use in industrial applications such as frequency converters, stepper motors, UPS-systems, current converters. Additionally medical versions with leakage currents of < 80μA (M80) respectively < 5μA (M5) are available. The series is ENEC and cURus approved and is qualified for use in equipment according IEC/EN standard 60950.

5008 – SCHURTER expands its family of Power Entry Modules with a new and compact filtered appliance inlet according IEC, style C8   

The new 5008 series combines an IEC C8 inlet with a line filter for low power applications. The EMI filter is dimensioned as a 1-stage filter for rated currents up to 2.5 A according IEC respectively 6 A according UL and available as standard or medical version. The integrated EMC filtering mounts directly at the point of power entry, ensuring an optimal effect on the electromacnetic compatibility performance of the unit.

FMAC ECO / FMBC ECO – Cost optimized 3-phase line filters

SCHURTER presents its new 3-phase line filters, series FMAC ECO and FMBC ECO. These compact and cost optimized filters are in ECO designed and especially suited for use in drive systems, engineering installations and places where frequency inverters cause electromagnetic disturbances.

The EMC filters are arranged for use with 480 VAC installations and are available in single or two stage versions. The FMAC ECO single stage filter is available from 10A, while the two stage

FMBC ECO filter from 8A. The FMBC ECO series has a leakage current of just 5 mA, making it ideal for use in installations equipped with residual current circuit breakers. The filters can be mounted lengthwise or upright which provides maximum flexibility in design.

FMEB and FMEC – Optimized filters for DC applications from SCHURTER

SCHURTER extends its portfolio of filters for DC applications with the introduction of series FMEB and FMEC. These filters as especially optimized for DC applications with technical features that support a broad range of applications.

The filters have a current rating of 30 A at 80 VDC. Typical applications are found in DC supplied IT and telecom infrastructures. When used in electrical cabinets of the branch or automation controls for the machine and transportation industries, the filters guarantee a safe operation by attenuating disturbances in the control and communication circuits.

The FMEB filter series is designed for a maximum operating voltage of 80 VDC, while the series FMEC offers connections for two polarities at maximum ±80 VDC.

The primary side is equipped with screw clamps and the secondary side with 6.3 mm x 0.8 quick connect terminals. The aluminum housing offers mounting straps to securely fasten the filter. The FMEB and FMEC filters are approved to ENEC and UL/CSA.

Series 5150 possesses broadband suppression properties to 1 GHz and combines them with the most simple and universal power input. This integrated and compact design provides an easy, safe and cost effective alternative to existing market solutions and opens new opportunities in the filtering of high frequencies.

The SCHURTER 5150 series extends the application range of <a href="http://www.x2y.com" target="_blank">X2Y</a>® filter technology from its origin in EMI protection of DC circuits into the area of AC power input. This filter technology combines the X and Y capacitors used in a typical mains filter into one component. The leads connecting the capacitors are thereby eliminated and parasitic impedances are reduced to a minimum. This results in broadband suppression into high frequency ranges.

The component is equipped with a C14 IEC connector. The double shielding between the <a href="http://www.x2y.com" target="_blank">X2Y</a>® filter and filter casing, together with the broad metal flange can serve as an alternative for feed-through and multi-stage filters. Schurter’s new 20A IEC inlet with EMI filter, series 5130 ECO design, meets the increasing demands of IT, medical and industrial appliances. The new ECO design provides cost savings and maximum performance in a lightweight and environmentally friendly compact package. The 5130 combines an IEC C20 inlet with line filter in various mounting styles. The positive electrical contact of the broad metal flange to the chassis ensures optimal filtering and shielding. The units are available with current ratings 20A or 16A, depending on attenuation requirements. In addition to the standard version, medical filters with low leakage currents of <5�?�A, as well as types with X1 and Y1 capacitors for enhanced withstand voltage, are also offered.

Mounting options include a front or rear version for traditional screw and nut mounting or rivet mounting. DA22 – SCHURTER releases appliance inlet combined with line filter and fuseholder for mounting on printed circuit boards

DA22, SCHURTER's latest power entry module (PEM) is built compact and provides maximum electrical power density. The unit offers optimal EMC filter performance, features built-in overload protection and ensures resource-saving mounting.

The DA22 product line, specifically designed for PCB mounting, combines an IEC appliance inlet, a fuse and a filter into one unit. Pre-wired, this product requires only minimal PCB space and can be mounted with very little time required for wiring.

This new PEM integrates EMC filtering and shielding directly at the point of power entry, which has an optimal effect on electromagnetic compatibility. Overload protection is provided by a 1-pole or

2-pole fuseholder for 5x20 fuse links.

The unit is screwed onto the appliance chassis' wall from the inside, the screw-on connection with the printed circuit board ensuring optimal mechanical safety.

DA22 is rated for currents up to 10 A at 125/250 VAC. The entire product line is ENEC and cURus approved and meets the requirements for appliances according to IEC 60950. The versions featuring Extrasafe fuseholders and medical appliance filters are ideally suited to medical appliances according to IEC 60601-1.

The series combines an IEC C14 or C18 inlet with line filter in various mounting styles. With the addition of the flexible wire and PCB versions SCHURTER has again expanded its range of filtered power entry modules for low and high current applications.
